Located to the north of the city of Valdivia, the station covers an area of around 300 hectares of well-preserved native forest that has been kept intact since its donation to the university by Adolfo Woerner in the early 1970s.
Scientific research at the station covers a variety of disciplines, including ecology, evolution, botany, and zoology, and the station is the base of operations for a multitude of research projects.
